Parent Points Privacy Policy

Last updated: 22 October 2026

Parent Points is an adult-managed family points app by Curious Moonbeam. This policy explains local use and optional account-based family sharing. Contact info@curiousmoonbeam.co.nz for privacy questions, support or deletion requests.

Local use and optional sharing

You can use Parent Points without an account. In local mode, child profiles, tasks, rewards, points history and settings are stored on your Android device. Signing in does not automatically upload existing local family data.

Sharing is optional. When you explicitly choose to copy local data into a new shared workspace, the app uploads child names and avatar colours, tasks, rewards, points history and supported workspace settings. You can also create an empty shared workspace. Original local data remains separate. Workspaces have independent children, balances, history and membership; balances are not shared between workspaces.

Information handled

There are no child accounts. Adults are responsible for entering and sharing family information appropriately. Child profile photos stay local to the device and are not uploaded to shared workspaces. Cloud sharing of child photos is not part of this release.

Use and sharing

We use information to show balances, tasks, rewards and history; apply settings; authenticate adults; manage invitations and membership; synchronise a chosen workspace; and answer support and deletion requests. Other adult members see their workspace's shared family information and actor names. Owners also manage invitations, membership, ownership and permanent workspace deletion.

Parent Points uses Google Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore for optional accounts and sharing. These services process account information, shared content and technical information needed to operate and secure the services. See Google's Privacy Policy and Firebase privacy information. Google Play and Android may separately handle device backup, diagnostics or reports under their own settings and policies.

We do not sell family information. The app does not include ads, app analytics, billing, Cloud Functions or cloud photo storage. We do not use family information for advertising or profiling.

When you choose to share an invitation, Android lets you select the recipient and messaging app. The link contains a single-use invitation code, without child details or the invited email address. If the recipient chooses Install on the invitation page, the code is passed to Google Play so the app can restore it after installation using Play Install Referrer. This is used only to continue the invitation, not advertising or analytics. The app still checks the invited verified email and requires the parent to choose Join family. Never share an email sign-in link: it is a sign-in credential, separate from a family invitation.

Offline use and storage

Local mode works offline. In shared mode, positive awards and task completions can queue on the device while offline. They are pending until accepted by the server. Spending, deductions, undo and edits to shared details require a connection. Pending changes can be rejected, for example if a task changed while the device was offline.

Shared information is stored using Cloud Firestore. Authentication and other Google processing can occur internationally; we do not promise all information remains in New Zealand or Australia.

Android backup and restore are separate from family sharing. Original local data may be included according to the app's backup rules and device/account settings. Shared data is synchronised through Firebase. Clearing app storage or uninstalling removes the current local copy, but does not delete a shared workspace, your account or a separate Android backup. Manage Android backups through your device or Google account settings.

Retention and deletion

Local information remains until you remove it in the app, clear app storage or uninstall. Shared information remains until deleted in the workspace. Leaving a workspace or deleting your account does not erase family information retained for other adult members.

To delete your account, open Settings โ†’ Family sharing โ†’ Manage family workspaces โ†’ Delete account while online. First transfer ownership of every workspace you own to another member, or permanently delete those workspaces. Account deletion removes your account, memberships and personal account data. Your account identifier and actor name are anonymised on retained family history; transactions remain available to other members. Notes or other family content may still contain personal information entered by an adult, so review that content separately before leaving. Signing out does not delete the account.

If you cannot use the app, email info@curiousmoonbeam.co.nz with subject Parent Points account deletion and the email address used for your account. We verify requests before making changes and explain any workspace ownership steps needed. Do not send passwords, verification codes, child names or photos. We normally complete deletion within 30 days of a verified request; if an ownership issue prevents completion, we explain what is needed. See account deletion.

We keep support correspondence only as long as needed to handle your request and meet applicable obligations. Provider backups and security records may have separate retention periods under provider policies; we do not promise immediate erasure of those records. There is no fixed additional retention period for an active Parent Points account after successful account deletion.

You can keep your account while deleting a shared workspace you own: open Manage family workspaces, select it, then choose Delete workspace and confirm. This permanently removes that workspace's shared family data for every member. To request deletion of some data without deleting your account, email support with subject Parent Points data deletion, your account email and the workspace concerned. Do not include child names, photos or credentials. We verify your identity and authority, explain any shared records that must remain, and normally complete a verified request within 30 days. Local device data and separate Android backups require their own removal. See data deletion instructions.

Security and your choices

Use a device lock, protect your adult account and invite only people you trust. Authentication, membership and server-side database rules control workspace access. No system can guarantee absolute security.

You can continue in local mode, choose whether to import local information, edit content, manage membership, leave a workspace, transfer ownership, delete a workspace you own, or delete your account. Contact us for access/correction requests or privacy concerns. If child information was entered or shared inappropriately, remove it in-app where possible and contact us for help.

Updates and contact

We update the date when practices change; material changes will also appear in release information.
